Louis-Philippe Walnut Center Table — 19th Century
Elegant Louis-Philippe style center table, crafted from solid walnut, with a top veneered in carefully selected burr walnut, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and remarkable joinery work.
The top, adorned with a burr walnut veneer of spectacular grain, features a centered and perfectly symmetrical design. The radiating pattern captures the light and highlights the nobility of the material. Each sheet of veneer appears to have been chosen with great care and placed with utmost precision, demonstrating the artisan’s talent and meticulous attention to detail. The silky, deep patina enhances this natural richness and gives the piece a timeless character.
The apron is particularly noteworthy, with its delicate scrollwork motifs that follow the contour of the table, adding subtle relief. These elegant curves frame finely carved oval medallions, bringing a discreet and refined touch of sophistication.
All around the top, the ogee moulding accentuates the depth effect and softens the ensemble visually. This subtle curvature plays with light and shadow, enhancing the grain of the walnut and giving the table a presence full of softness and elegance.
This perfect balance between structured lines and ornamental details gives the table a majestic yet understated allure, in the purest Louis-Philippe tradition, where sobriety meets refinement.
The tabletop rests on a sturdy and refined base, composed of a large tripod-shaped plinth with chamfered corners, solidly anchored to the floor. This base, typical of fine 19th-century creations, offers perfect stability without weighing down the piece. The three rounded feet, adorned with discreet scrolls, add extra charm and reveal the artisanal mastery and attention to detail throughout.
When the table is extended, two elegant turned and tapered legs are deployed to support the leaves. Far more than simple functional additions, these supplementary legs are crafted with the same finesse and fully contribute to the harmonious aesthetic of the piece.
A table designed for hosting and enhancing convivial moments
Thanks to its ingenious extension system, this table adapts to every occasion: from an intimate dinner around a warm round tabletop to a majestic oval table, capable of comfortably seating 14 to 16 guests.
The original locking system is fully functional, and each leaf — later additions to the table — is equipped with its own supports, ensuring excellent stability. The patina, also original, is deep and warm; the table has never been restored and remains in remarkable condition.
