Work by Max Kruse (1854-1942), signed on one of the long sides, depicts the messenger of Marathon, NENIKHKAMEN, for which the artist won the Prix de Rome in 1881 that took him to Rome for a year, whose original is in the Alte NationalGalerie, and which is among his best-known works.
On one of the short sides is the mark of the Berlin foundry Gladenbeck.
It rests on a beautiful molded base in marble rosso antico and giallo antico
