The engravings by Johannes Larsen (1867-1961) that illustrate this book of poems about birds, Traekflegene, are full of poetry, combining Nordic simplicity and delicate elegance. This Danish artist illustrates through his painting, his love of nature, and life in the far north. His house has been transformed into a museum. The collection of poems is composed by a famous artist in Denmark Steen Steenfer Blicher (1782-1848), Pastor by trade. He composed numerous collections of stories, often humorous, and poetry. He is nicknamed the Walter Scott of Denmark. The edition presented is dated 1914, on vellum, and is full of woodcuts of birds, dotting the pages, both in frontispieces, as well as in tailpieces, or punctuating the pages. It was bound at the time in a sober, amateur binding, with a burgundy spine and gilt top pages.
