"Prince Joachim Murat Cdv By Disderi Circa 1860"
Full-length portrait of Prince Johachim MURAT by Disderi. Albumen print, carte-de-visite format, circa 1860. Joachim Joseph Napoléon Murat, 4th Prince Murat, born July 21, 1834 in Bordentown, Burlington County, New Jersey (United States), and died October 23, 1901 at the Château de Chambly, grandson of Joachim Murat and Caroline Bonaparte, he was a general of the Second Empire. Eugène Disderi (1819-1889) invented the carte-de-visite portrait in 1854. He developed a multi-lens camera that made it possible to take several exposures on the same negative, which reduced production costs. He thus contributed to popularizing photography and disseminating carte-de-visite photographs.
