Rare Wedgwood Lustre Bud Vases by Daisy Makeig-Jones, Ordinary Lustre Series, c. 1915
An elegant and rare pair of Wedgwood porcelain bud vases designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones around 1915. These vases belong to the early Ordinary Lustre series — the artistic forerunner to her iconic Fairyland Lustre range.
Each vase is gracefully shaped with a slender neck and flared rim, finished in a powder blue lustre glaze with delicate marbling. The bodies are adorned with hand-painted fantastical butterflies in mother-of-pearl tones, highlighted with subtle gilding. The interiors feature mother-of-pearl lustre with soft staining and gold borders — a hallmark of Makeig-Jones’ refined early decorative style.
Marked on the base with the Wedgwood Portland vase mark, printed Wedgwood England, and hand-numbered Z5068.
These are not only exquisite decorative objects but significant pieces of early 20th-century English ceramic art, reflecting the imaginative vision of one of Wedgwood’s most celebrated designers.
