19th century Italian terracotta sculpture depicting the famous Venus de’ Medici, a work based on a Greek marble sculpture from the 1st century BC, original or perhaps a loose copy/interpretation of a Greek original from the 3rd century BC now lost. BC.The Venus was purchased by Francesco de’ Medici in 1584 and is now exhibited in Florence at the Uffizi Gallery.
