"School Of Peru (17th-18th Centuries) - Our Lady Of Bethlehem Of Cusco"
- Oil on canvas. Lined fabric.- Image of the lay Catholic patron saint of Cuzco, covered with elaborate gold leaf decorations, a craft known as "brocateado," in which the painters of Spanish Viceroyal Peru specialized. Due to the mysterious and obscure character of the representation, and the pronounced triangular shape of the cloak, associated with the primordial mountain or "Apu" in Andean syncretism, this painting must be considered an authentic demonstration of the pictorial and religious hybridization carried out in the society of Upper Peru at the end of the 17th century: The queen of Catholicism brought by the conquerors is dressed in the gold of Peru and the flowers of the jungle inside a magnificent baroque dressing room. An authentically colonial work, in an optimal and authentic state of conservation, of unaltered purity, open to attributions within the dynasties of painters of Potosí, Upper Bolivia and Cuzco.- Dimensions of the painting without frame: 75 x 59 cm / 86 x 70 cm with magnificent frame.- Galerie Montbaron attaches to all its lots a technical sheet drawn up by a qualified art historian. This form is sent in digital format and on request.
