Object description :

"Ferdinand Wagner The Younger – Woman Playing With A Parrot – Signed "
Oil on canvas depicting a charming genre scene: in a living room, a young woman dressed entirely in white plays with a parrot perched on a twisted column. She offers it a flower and holds a fruit in her other hand, hidden behind her back. Her face is lit from the front by daylight. Her long dress reveals her throat, and its reflections glisten in the light. This dress allows us to situate the scene at the very end of the 19th or the very beginning of the 20th century. In the decor, we note a tapestry on the wall, a red carpet with brown and black patterns on the floor.
The work is signed lower left. It is in very good condition, clean and without restorations. It is offered in a gilded wooden frame that probably dates from the 1930s, in good condition.
In this work, we find all the talent of Ferdinand Wagner, particularly in the youthful and charming female face.

The artist
Ferdinand Wagner "the Younger" was a German painter, born in Passau in 1847 and died in Munich in 1927. He first studied art with his father, himself a painter and decorator. Later, he attended the Munich Academy of Arts, where he worked closely with Karl von Piloty. Much of Wagner's career focused on commissions as a decorative painter. He created ceiling frescoes and murals for the Munich Theater and City Hall. His work was also featured in several restaurants, including the Tivoli in London, the Drachenburg in Königswinter on the Rhine, and the Luitpold and Café Roth in Munich. He painted frescoes and facades in several castles and city halls. Throughout his career, he received numerous honors and awards for his work.
His works are rare and sought after at public auctions.
