The artist
Ferdinand Wagner "the Younger" was a German painter, born in Passau in 1847 and died in Munich in 1927. He first studied art with his father, himself a painter and decorator. Later, he attended the Munich Academy of Arts, where he worked closely with Karl von Piloty. Much of Wagner's career focused on commissions as a decorative painter. He created ceiling frescoes and murals for the Munich Theater and City Hall. His work was also featured in several restaurants, including the Tivoli in London, the Drachenburg in Königswinter on the Rhine, and the Luitpold and Café Roth in Munich. He painted frescoes and facades in several castles and city halls. Throughout his career, he received numerous honors and awards for his work.
His works are rare and sought after at public auctions.
