Discover the timeless charm of French furniture with this superb Louis-Philippe style commode, crafted at the middle of the 19th century.
Made of solid walnut, its front is adorned with an exceptional burl walnut veneer, with rich and deep grain patterns that reveal the craftsmanship of the period’s cabinetmakers.
This commode opens with four drawers:
• A top drawer with a doucine shape, integrated into the furniture’s waistband
• Three large spacious drawers, one of which is a very large lower drawer, hidden and opening at the same time as the plinth, offering generous and clever storage.
The drawers are crafted with dovetail joints, ensuring strength and durability. They glide smoothly and can support heavy loads. The drawer bottoms are made of oak, a detail that reflects the quality of the materials chosen.
The top is made of solid walnut. The structure is assembled using the traditional mortise and tenon technique. The tapered feet add elegance and stability. The original patina, warm and authentic, has been preserved.
The heart-shaped lock escutcheons, added later, bring a romantic touch. Two new locks function perfectly, while two original locks are kept but non-functional.
This commode was discovered in the Loire Valley, at a passionate winemaker’s home, where it was placed in one of his children’s rooms. Once, it held linens, personal belongings, and family treasures, in a soft and refined atmosphere.
Today, this commode will enhance a master or children’s bedroom, a large hallway, or even a living room. Its classic elegance and French authenticity make it a timeless piece that fits both traditional and contemporary interiors.
