Large gilded and polychrome wooden sculpture representing Saint Austremoine. He was the first bishop of Clermont and evangelizer of Auvergne in the second half of the 3rd century. He is said to have died in 286 and is recognized as a Saint by the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church, which celebrates his feast day on November 1st. Saint Austremoine is presented standing on a sculpted base wearing a mistre, holding the bishop's crozier in his left hand while pointing with two fingers of his right hand. Covered with a cope and tunic in gilded wood, the bearded saint wears a cross on his chest. Quality work, precise sculpture and original polychromy. Good condition, some chips to the gilding.
