"Lefebvre Regence Fish Clock And Candlesticks 1880"
A rare and highly decorative set of excellent quality, stamped on its
mechanism "J. Lefebvre fils à Paris," a clockmaker listed in the
Tardy dictionary of French clockmakers in 1880. Richly crafted and
finely chiseled gilt bronze construction with a main fish decoration
adorned with a royal crown. Bronze dial set with twelve enameled
cartouches highlighted by an outline of mythological creatures against
a silvered bronze background. The two-light candlesticks are decorated
with openwork fleurs-de-lis and a crown-shaped cup echoing the
decoration at the top of the clock.
Original mechanism without modification, striking the hours and
half-hours on an antique bell.
The plate is stamped and numbered 7783 with its pendulum bearing the
same number.
