A finely painted Japanese Satsuma bowl from the Meiji period, signed 田日光 (Tanaka) with the traditional 薩摩製 (“Made in Satsuma”) inscription. This elegant piece features a scalloped rim and is decorated with hand-painted chrysanthemums and a remarkable interior butterfly motif known as “1000 Butterflies,” incorporating rare gosu blue pigment.
Likely produced circa 1880 in the Nikko region by an independent export-focused workshop, this bowl represents high-quality artistry with detailed enamel and gold decoration throughout.
