"Masterful Calligraphy. Demonstration Of Know-how. 1805. "
Amazing document dated 30 Prairial of the year 13, Republican calendar, corresponding to the year 1805 where a writing master extols his merits and offers his services. He details his training in particular with Mr Santomer the elder president of the writing academy of Paris. He practices his art at Mrs. widow Fauvel (probably his mother), merchant haberdasher on the Grande Rue de Vaucelles in Caen. This document is in perfect condition and constitutes a feat of calligraphic art. It is also a testimony to an art that has now disappeared. The thick and thin strokes, the arabesques, the various fantasies are truly similar to graphic art. The sheet of bistre paper is written in white ink or gouache and is enhanced with gilding, the composition is perfect and very elaborate. Beautiful Louis 16 period frame in original gilded wood and glass, never opened, as discovered. Dimensions: 59cm by 47cm with the frame.
