Son of a wood gilder, he attended the National School of Fine Arts in Paris. He was a student of PIGNOT and Achille GILBERT and was a regular visitor to the Louvre. He exhibited regularly from 1877 to 1914 at the Salon des Artistes Français and was awarded several medals and acquisitions by the State.
He also participated in the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts and the Salon of the Friends of the Arts in Saint-Maur, of which he was one of the founding members. These paintings with intimate subjects in the light of an indoor lamp would make his reputation.
