Object description :

"Marcel Fournier (1869-1917) Farm In The Moonlight ~1904, Hérisson. Auvergne, Crozant, Allier"
New oil on canvas by Marcel Fournier representing a farm in the moonlight around 1903/1906, signed lower right. Size of the painting alone 46x55cm and 59x68cm including frame. This is therefore a new rare impressionist composition by Marcel Fournier who painted here a farmhouse in the moonlight around 1904, I think in the area around Hérisson in Allier, but it could also be in Creuse or in another place in Auvergne. I say towards Hérisson, because at this time Fournier painted several night motifs and most of them in the close surroundings of Hérisson, like houses on the banks of the Aumance, as proof I attach a work from 1904 (see last photo) representing houses on the banks of the Aumance in Hérisson, painting reproduced in the only catalog on Marcel Fournier. This oil is therefore very typical of Marcel Fournier, especially by its very impressionist touch, but also by the choice of its motif. He adds here the difficulty by painting this subject of night, but challenge taken up, the atmosphere is sumptuous and bluffing, in particular thanks to a rare palette of duck blue and petrol blue, embellished with very subtle tones of turquoise, gray, purples ... and finally some small touches of ochre / yellow at the level of the lit windows. In short, as usual, a small masterpiece by this talented painter, who rivals the greatest such as Monet, Guillaumin, and even Cézanne at the end of his career. My regular customers know my attachment to this painter, I have offered several works by this artist in the past, including views of the Creuse valley in Crozant, market scenes in Chantelles, the Bouble valley in winter or a seascape in Martigues, among others... Indeed, this long-forgotten painter is one of the best artists of his generation and, in addition, he was part of the epic of the Crozant school, traveled to many foreign countries (Asia, Africa, Madagascar, etc.) and is finally and above all one of the best Auvergne painters. But that's not all, he was also an excellent photographer with national renown, then a very good sculptor. Born in Chantelle in the Allier, he will have two passions, painting and the navy, because he will be a long-distance sailor. He will exhibit in the biggest Parisian Salons, Independents, French Artists, Salon du Champs de Mars, etc, etc... where he will present views of Auvergne, Creuse, Provence (Estaque, Marseille...), the Maghreb, Asia, Madagascar, Paris etc... In short, a very great forgotten painter, fortunately an exhibition and a catalog in 1996 in Chantelle will allow him to come out of oblivion, I also advise you to visit the site of which I attach the link where you can see a fairly complete biography; https://www.voussac.fr/marcel-fournier-peintre-navigateur-au-long-cours/ One can also find one of his works at the French Embassy in Lisbon. And it is finally also listed in the catalog on the Crozant school as well as in a 3rd book "New images: the beginnings of photography in Allier" However, amateurs are not mistaken because even if his works are extremely rare in sales, the rare ones that pass always achieve very good results often between 1500 and 3000 € I myself have therefore sold several works always between 2 and 3000 € This one is in its original state, I just point out a few 3/4 small repairs carried out by a restorer, but tiny (see accidents before restoration in the penultimate photo), however I take this into account in my price Delivered framed in a modern gilded frame Work guaranteed authentic
