"Marcel Causse (1879-1946) Canal Fisherman, Narbonne. Béziers, Painter Of Hérault, Louis Paul"
Very pretty oil on panel by Marcel Causse representing a fisherman on the edge of the canal, signed lower right, countersigned and located on the back, I think it reads "Bord du canal avant le pont de Narbonne, M. Causse" Size of the painting alone 46x38cm and 54x46cm including frame. This is therefore a beautiful post-impressionist painting by Marcel Causse who paints here a lively scene of a fisherman on the edge of the canal, therefore perhaps the Roubine canal towards Narbonne. Causse is immediately recognizable thanks to his very material touch, as well as his most subtle palette with greens, blues, ochres, purples etc... Marcel Causse is one of the best post-impressionist painters of his region alongside Louis Paul, Raoul Guiraud, Charles Labor, Emile Beaume etc... Born in Montpellier and died in Béziers, he took classes at the Montpellier School of Fine Arts, then gave classes in Béziers, a city where he created many sets including for the theater in 1935. The museum also has several works in its collections. Marcel Causse appears in several books including "l'Hérauls vu par les peintres de Alain Laborieux et Robert Faure" where several works are reproduced. This painting is in good condition, some old pinholes at the edge but now hidden by the frame. Delivered in an old frame. Work guaranteed authentic
