"Large Female Cubist Style Statue Bambara Mali"
Very large Bambara statue from Mali symbolizes abundance (strong shell chest) of harvests or livestock, honesty with open hands facing forward (I have nothing to hide). The statue is very minimalist which gives it a lot of strength and modernity, with superb cubist lines and shapes, a masterpiece of the genre. Note the beautiful black-brown patina due to the anointings of palm oil, the forged nails for the eyes, the geometric patterns on the torso and back which are the scarifications. Given the size and quality it is probably a chieftaincy statue, a notable. Height 107 cm, hardwood weight 13 kg.
