"Engraving Versailles Peace Room "
Very fine and large engraving of one of the vaults of the Salon de la Paix at Versailles representing "Christian Europe in Peace" in very good condition. Note some brown stains and missing paper on the sides. However, the subject of the engraving has no alterations. Very fine large proof dating from the 1700s. Christian Europe in Peace is an allegory painted by Charles Le Brun for Versailles, illustrating the political and religious vision of the reign of Louis XIV. The work celebrates Christian unity under the aegis of the French monarchy, seen as the guarantor of order and peace on the continent. Through symbolic figures representing European nations and references to Christianity, Le Brun exalts the central role of France and the Sun King in the preservation of religious and political balance in Europe. The work thus mixes monarchical propaganda and Christian ideology, in a classical and theatrical style characteristic of the Grand Siècle.
