"Gilt Bronze Candlestick With Wader Decor, Napoleon III Chinoiserie, Late 19th Century"
Gilt bronze candlestick representing a wader, probably a crane symbolizing peace, luck and longevity in Asia, typical of the chinoiserie in vogue in the second half of the 19th century. The crane rests on a pretty quadrilobed base, and its head is topped with a crown of exotic foliage, itself surmounted by a socket and its bobeche, all finely chiseled. Very slight wear to the gilding in places which does not detract from the aesthetics of the object. Weight: 450 grams.
