In this very lively scene, we see many figures on the banks or in boats, a village on a hill, another that disappears into the distance. Clouds race across the vast sky, where we can also make out a few birds.
The work is signed Roeser lower left (difficult to read, see heavily lightened photo). It is in very good condition, clean. There are very slight outcrops of the wooden panel, without consequence on the overall quality of the work.
The painting is framed in a modern frame of the old type, in carved wood and painted in tortoiseshell style.
The work is by Matthias Roeser, an 18th-century German painter. Roeser trained with Loutherbourg in Strasbourg. He was admitted as a member of the Académie Saint Luc in 1771. He worked for two years at as a restorer at the Musée du Louvre. In this capacity, he restored several of Rembrandt's paintings.
