Object description :

"Rare Wedgwood Lustre Bud Vase Trio, Daisy Makeig-jones Dragons, C. 1915 Model Z4831"

A rare and elegant trio of Wedgwood porcelain bud vases designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones around 1915. These vases belong to the early and highly collectible “Ordinary Lustre” series – the direct precursor to her iconic “Fairyland Lustre” line, which would go on to define Wedgwood's most fantastical and imaginative ceramic creations.

Each vase is individually hand-painted with golden dragons against shimmering lustre glazes. Two of the vases are finished in a mottled powder green, while the third is in a marbled powder blue. The interiors are coated in a pearlescent mother-of-pearl glaze and the rims feature finely painted gilt borders – a characteristic of Makeig-Jones’ early decorative style.

All three vases bear the Wedgwood Portland vase mark and are printed “Wedgwood England.” Each is hand-numbered with the pattern number Z4831, although one of the numbers is partially worn due to age. These vases form a harmonious matching set – rare in both composition and condition, particularly given the fragility of lustre porcelain over a century old.

This particular pattern (Z4831) was part of the first ten lustreware series released by Wedgwood in 1914. Daisy Makeig-Jones’ early designs were produced in very limited quantities, and complete examples such as this are seldom seen on the market today. Their artistic and historical value continues to grow, making them highly desirable among collectors of early 20th-century studio pottery and English decorative ceramics.

Measurements
Height (each): 10.8 cm / 4.25″
Rim diameter: 6.2 cm / 2.44″

Condition
Excellent antique condition. No chips, cracks, hairlines, or restoration. One vase shows minor natural age-toning within the glaze; another has light softening of gilding on the dragon’s tail. Both are subtle and mentioned only for accuracy. Overall, a well-preserved and extremely rare matching trio.
