Rare pair of Sitzendorf Rococo porcelain figural candlesticks, "Gardeners with Baskets" on floral bases, Germany c.1890
A highly decorative and finely modelled pair of porcelain figural candlesticks by the Sitzendorf Porcelain Manufactory, dating to circa 1890. This matching pair features a young man and woman dressed in 18th-century Rococo attire, each standing among flowers and vines, and holding a large woven basket – a motif symbolising harvest or abundance.
Both figures stand on ornate scrolling rocaille bases, richly decorated with applied porcelain flowers and foliage. The quality is evident in the crisp modelling, expressive facial features, and the intricate lacework detailing at the sleeves and cuffs. The soft pastel palette is delicately applied and enhanced with subtle gilding.
Each figure is marked with the underglaze cobalt blue crossed-lines mark of Sitzendorf and incised model number “209”, consistent with production from the late 19th century. This is a rare and harmonious pair, seldom found together and in such well-preserved condition.
