Pair Of 18th Century Portraits Dated 1778, Man And Woman Signed P. Cartier

Pair of 18th century portraits representing a couple, Mr and Mrs Cartier, painted by someone in their family, a certain P. Cartier in 1778, as written on the back of the paintings.
These portraits are painted in oil on canvas, oval stretchers mounted with a key.
The man seems to be wearing a wig, he is soberly dressed.
The woman wears a headdress on her hair, a lace collar and a rose stuck in the top of her dress.
These paintings are presented to you in their found condition, no hole in the canvas but very slight dents with loss of pictorial layer in places.
The period frames in carved oak are gilded with leaf.
That of Mrs. has gaps and consolidations.
Louis XVI period, late 18th century, 1778.
