The box is round and entirely covered with mother-of-pearl panels on the sides and two large plaques on the lid and base.
The lid is engraved with a profile portrait, probably of a young Louis XVI.
The base is decorated with a rosette.
Silver rims accentuate the lid, base, and opening of the box.
The interior is plated with tortoiseshell.
The rims are not hallmarked but have been tested with a touchstone.
This type of work using mother-of-pearl is typical of the production in the Palais Royal boutiques under Charles X. The iconography, featuring portraits of pre-Revolutionary kings, reflects a desire to continue and legitimize the monarchy, favored by the royal power during the Restoration.
A very beautiful box made from precious materials with a magnificent lid whose mother-of-pearl produces beautiful iridescent and shimmering reflections!
