"Japanese "kanebo" Storage Box 1980 "
The lid is illustrated with an elegant scene depicting two finely detailed gilded cranes in flight against a backdrop of a red sunset or sunrise, an iconic element of Japanese aesthetics. Cranes are a symbol of longevity and good fortune in Japanese culture, while the pine tree, also present in the composition, is a sign of resilience and eternity. The whole is made with a glossy black lacquer technique, enriched with golden motifs, reminiscent of the art of maki-e, an ancient decorative process by applying gold or silver powder to lacquer.
