""pig" Cauldron - 19th Century"
Cauldron for cooking suckling pigs. Period early 19th century or earlier?Probable origin: Normandy. Was used on the same principle as fish kettles, namely the use of a lifting tray. Infinitely rarer product than a fish kettle or a simple circular cauldron. Was suspended in the hearth, just refer to the handle which has an anti-slip recess. The whole is made of brass and the handle is wrought iron. The lifting part is also made of brass, assembled by copper riveting. The whole (including the bottom) is decorated with a fine grid as was practiced on certain basins. In good condition. Some micro holes and cracks are to be noted, linked to the use which was made of it.No dents.See photos
