"“bacchante” By Louis Joseph Prat, Known As Loÿs Prat (1879-1934)"
Louis Joseph Prat, known as Loÿs Prat, is a French painter born in Donzère (Drôme) on October 6, 1879 and died in Avignon in November 1934. Loïs Prat was admitted to the École des Beaux Arts in Paris at the very beginning of the 20th century where he prepared for the Grand Prix de Rome, he was trained there by Fernand Cormon. He won the second grand prize in 1908. This painting was originally intended to be placed in a frame with an oval mat. Good general condition despite some losses and small accidents to the frame, especially at the corners. (Early 20th century frame). Signed lower right. A small touch of “nabism” in the composition and the vibration of the colors, applied in light and barely blended touches. A pose of the subject and a dynamic that is also reminiscent of the Art Nouveau poster.
