"Dolphin Clamp 3rd Hand Seamstress Needle Pliers"
The seamstresses of the 18th and 19th centuries were very ingenious. They had invented a needle holder that also served as a third hand. Imagine a seamstress sitting at her work table, who had to stretch her fabric in order to place needles on the hem, draw the situation, without a third hand, you would not succeed. This clamp, also called a seamstress's vice, is made of cast iron, the mouth of the dolphin (or dragon) opens a few millimeters to introduce the fabric, once the vice is fixed to the table. Note that the pad of the needle holder part is not original. Object in its current state, barely out of an attic.
