"A "bizarre" Silk Lampas Tapestry - Holland Circa 1720"
Circa 1720-1730 Holland A lampas panel called Bizarre with a floral and naval composition dating from the beginning of the 18th century and most likely from a Dutch factory. It consists of four sewn strips (56 cm wide with selvedges) in brocaded edged lampas on a blue marbled satin background. The Netherlands, thanks to the East India Companies (VOC), dominated the maritime routes with the English in the 17th and 18th centuries, as suggested by the design of this silk with its design of galleys and fortifications. The Baroque floral repertoire with greenery, pomegranates and massive trees, remains borrowed from the Rococco taste, here very emphasized, in which the Dutch excelled. No defects to note apart from a few halos only visible on the reverse. Exceptional condition of colors and preservation. Dimensions: 195 cm high x 111 cm wide. Strips 56 cm wide
