"Head Of Bodhisattva. Gandharan Work, 34th Century."
Stone head fragment depicting a crowned bodhisattva, identifiable by his elaborate headdress adorned with pearls and flowers. The softly modeled face retains a serene expression, although partially eroded. This type of representation is typical of the Greco-Buddhist art of Gandhara (present-day northern Pakistan and eastern Afghanistan), which flourished between the 1st and 5th centuries. The blending of Greek and Buddhist canons illustrates the artistic exchanges along the Silk Road. Mounted on a wooden base.
