Gabriele Bella (Venice 1730-1799)
Oil on canvas Period 1760c.
Canvas cm. 74 x 60
Frame cm. 98 x 86
This unpublished Venetian view painted in oil on canvas in the mid-18th century, presents all the peculiarities of the simple and naive art of Gabriele Bella. A self-taught Venetian artist, this interesting master has recently been rediscovered and revalued for the documentary value of his views that often portray scenes of life and historical events in the golden years of the Serenissima. His name remained unknown compared to many of his contemporary artists with a greater pictorial technique, obtaining in recent years a fair amount of success and considerable recognition of his works.
The canvas published here is typical of his repertoire and depicts the view of the Rio della Sensa with all the gondolas in parade in front of the doors of the palaces.
The painting is in very good condition, already relined and complete with an important antique gilded frame that greatly increases its effect on the wall.
