"Arlesian Provençal Buffet Louis XV Style"
Sublime Provençal "Arlesian" walnut sideboard, Louis XV style, early 20th century. This is a piece of high-quality furniture! The ornamentation is opulent, in the purest Provençal style. The top is rectangular with refined front and rear corners. The rectangular shape has been enhanced by rounded edges and moldings on the front that soften any severity. The two front door panels have asymmetrically shaped carved moldings that somewhat mirror the two shapes of the exterior moldings. The apron is beautifully hand-carved with rocaille and foliage motifs, consisting of a continuous undulating stem, from which small leafy stems and groups of leaves branch off at more or less regular intervals. The iron keyholes, accented by foliage carvings on the top, open to reveal two interior shelves. This piece, mounted on the ankle and respecting the manufacturing processes of the 18th century, is typical of the cabinetmakers of the Arles region. The rounded corners have beautifully carved acanthus leaves and scrolled feet on sabots. The serpentine frame is constructed of solid walnut and has deep carved motifs in the Rococo style on all exposed sides. Each of the hinged doors of the buffet is made of solid walnut. Both have a central cartouche-shaped field with a molded edge. The walnut is decorated with floral and foliate carvings of great depth. This is surely a master's or final year piece of furniture, which reproduces a luxurious model of a chateau sideboard. The sides have two asymmetrical curved concave panels that meet in the center. A sublime piece of furniture! Dimensions: 122W x 84H x 64D cm
