Beautiful and elegant soliflore vase with a slender shape and bulbous base in glass paste with acid-etched decoration of wisteria motifs on an opaque background. It is from the Art Nouveau period, late 19th century. Signed Emile Gallé (1846-1904). Private collection. In perfect condition. Dimensions: h.34 cm x base diameter: 14 cm x neck diameter: 5 cm. History: Emile Gallé is the founder and first president of the Nancy School in 1901. A child of art and commerce, he is one of the most prominent figures in the applied arts of his time and one of the pioneers of Art Nouveau. He is also a precursor in genetics and evolution concerning the plant world, his work, little known to the general public, is nevertheless of great relevance since it precedes that of Gregor Mendel and announces the main lines. On the door of his Nancy studio, one could read the motto: "My root at the bottom of the woods".
