"Christofle, Viticulture Competition Vase 1895 "
Silver-plated bronze vase from Christofle Signed F.LEVILLAIN (Ferdinand Levillain 1837-1905) It rests on a square quadripod base; balust-shaped, it presents an antique decoration on the theme of wine. In the first medallion, there is a woman picking grapes at the foot of the vine, a standing man crushing them in a barrel. The second medallion is engraved "Ministry of Agriculture; Toulouse Regional Agricultural Competition 1895; Viticulture; Mr Joseph Marcel, in Sourouille near Fonsorbes" Signed in English letters on the base "Christofle et Cie", serial number 1659326 Perfect condition, very pretty patina Height 30cm A photo of this vase is reproduced in volume 3 of Henri Bouilhet, French Goldsmithing in the 18th and 19th Centuries, page 187
