"Christ In Ivory - France, Louis XIV Period "
This ivory Christ, carved in France in the late 17th or early 18th century, is distinguished by the intensity of its expression. His slender body, with finely chiseled muscles, conveys Christ's suffering with restraint and elegance. The face marked by pain, the tension of the limbs and the flowing drapery of the perizonium held by a thin cord are emblematic of the production of French crucifixes during the reign of Louis XIV.
