Unpublished - Pewter Torch - Spain (segovia), Circa 1700

Exceptional pewter torch with a cylindrical base and quarter-round foot and baguette; the short baluster shaft bearing a slightly truncated and heavily molded socket.
Hallmark (city hallmark?) of the armorial type "with three wavy bands in chief and three forces in points".
Master hallmark with an incompletely legible name: DES…./ SEGOVIA / ESPAÑA.
Height: 16 cm
SPAIN (SEGOVIA), Circa 1700

In very good condition and medium patina; two holes from an old electrification are however noted, one under the shaft the second on the quarter-round of the foot.
History: Very paradoxically, while Spain had many tin mines and supplied part of Europe for several centuries, only a few extremely rare examples of common old pewter have reached us. To my knowledge, this lack of production has not been explained to date.
