"Engraving Before 1830 : The Duke Of Bordeaux "
Interesting legitimist engraving, representing the Duke of Bordeaux as a child. Born in 1820, after the death of his father, the Duke of Berry, following an attack at the exit of the opera on rue Lepelettier in Paris, he is called "the child of the miracle". Grandson of Charles X, Henri is the heir to the crown of France. Despite the abdication of Charles X in his favor in 1830, he was forced into exile with his family in England. He then bore the courtesy title of Count of Chambord. The fall of Napoleon III was an opportunity for him to recover the throne, the Chamber of Deputies being then with a monarchist majority, yet his demands took him away from his goal. He died in 1883 without having reigned. The engraving is watercolored, and from the beginning in a period gilded frame (some small losses). It was closed in its time by strips of wallpaper. We also offer the portrait of his sister, Mademoiselle d'Artois.
