"Silver Reliquary 18th Cent. Silver Filigree 1 St Class Relic St Lucy + Wax Seal "

This exquisite 18th-century Italian reliquary features a 1 St Class Relic of:

Saint Lucy - Virgin and Martyr

Beautifully preserved and framed in an intricately detailed silver filigree design.

The relic, a small piece of bone, is placed, surrounded by delicate paperrolles within a theca covered by a glass, which enhances the elegance of this devotional object. The delicate silver filigree surrounding the theca exemplifies the craftsmanship of Italian religious artisans of the 18th century, with its intricate and delicate scrollwork adding a sense of refinement and devotion.

The back of the reliquary features an intact red wax seal and original threads, further ensuring its authenticity and historical significance. Such well-preserved pieces from the 18th century are rare, making this reliquary a truly remarkable artifact.

Saint Lucia of Syracuse (c. 283 – 304 AD), also called Saint Lucia (Latin: Sancta Lucia) and better known as Saint Lucy, was a Roman Christian martyr who died during the Diocletianic Persecution. She is venerated as a saint in Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox Christianity. She is one of eight women (including the Virgin Mary) explicitly commemorated by Catholics in the Canon of the Mass. Her traditional feast day, known in Europe as Saint Lucy's Day, is observed by Western Christians on 13 December. Lucia of Syracuse was honored in the Middle Ages and remained a well-known saint in early modern England.[3] She is one of the best known virgin martyrs, along with Agatha of Sicily, Agnes of Rome, Cecilia of Rome, and Catherine of Alexandria.
