Object description :

"Louis XV Bedside Table"
Delightful in its workmanship and compact dimensions, this antique Louis XV bedside table is entirely veneered in walnut, intact in its components despite its age, the work of Palermo craftsmen from the mid-18th century.

The design of the chest of drawers faithfully reflects the aesthetic demands of mid-18th century furniture, intolerant of straight lines and dedicated instead to the grace of curved lines, thus resulting in movement on all three fronts, in the "en cabriole" legs and in the graceful apron under the doors.

The silhouette of the apron itself (along with other details to be honest) unmistakably marks the Sicilian origin of this bedside table. Its facies is animated and dominated by a vibrant and nervous walnut veneered spine arranged symmetrically to form a rhomboid design on the front of the two doors and on the front of the drawer beneath them. The shaped top is embellished with a beautiful slab of Aleppo breccia marble from the same period. The two aforementioned doors conceal a large compartment, finally a small drawer centered by a metal bottle closes the design in the lower part.

Sicilian cabinetmaking, especially that of its main city, Palermo, reached unsurpassed levels in the field of cabinetmaking around the mid-18th century. Sensitive to the innovations coming from the rest of the peninsula, it was able to translate the language of the time by innovating it with technical/formal solutions of the first importance and which give the Sicilian eighteenth century its own dignity, even exiled from the capital of the kingdom, the Naples of the Bourbons.

The great value of an eighteenth-century Palermo bedside table lies above all in its rarity, in its scarcity on the antiques market. Added to this, in the specific case of our dresser, is the excellent state of conservation, the beautiful patina that the wood has acquired over the centuries, never touched and never restored. A piece of furniture handed down to us by history without anyone having ever touched it.

The beautiful proportions and the small dimensions further confirm what has been said so far, characteristics that allow it to be inserted even in narrower, tighter spaces and perfectly placed in today's apartments usually of small size. With your purchase you will also contribute to enhancing our antiques, the Italian one, the "made in Italy", that of our unsurpassed and ancient craftsmen. An investment of a cultural but also economic nature, a unique piece.
