After Carlo MarattaBaptism of ChristOil on canvas... 63 x 40 inches.Frame... 76 x 52 inches.This is a dramatic large-scale Baroque work, after the original that was completed in Rome in 1698, and now resides in the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli in the Vatican.The painting is in excellent condition. The original carved giltwood frame is impressive, as are the two winged angels on the upper section of the frame. Circa1800.Carlo Maratta or Maratti (1625 - 1713) Italian artist, worked primarily in Rome in the classical Baroque manner.The monumental gilt frame with the sunken angels adorning each shoulder is a wonderful work in itself.
