"Luigi Rossini, The Arch Of Janus, From Antichità Romane, Intaglio, Rome, 1819"
Beautiful intaglio print from Rossini's Antichità Romane series, a collection of 101 etchings published in Rome in 1823. The letter of the print indicates various information: "Rossini dis. et inc." [Rossini draftsman and engraver], "Roma 1819", as well as a descriptive caption of the work: "Veduta dell'Interno dell'Arco di Giano". Built in the 4th century AD on the outskirts of the Forum Boarium (cattle market of ancient Rome), the Arch of Janus is still visible today, as is the church of San Giorgio in Velabro, founded in the 7th century. Good general condition; some rare and discreet foxing is noted. Good quality frame, which has the merit of elegance and simplicity. Overall 68 x 58 cm Visible 47 x 38 cm
