This exquisite early 19th Century Italian reliquary features a 1 St Class Relic of:
Saint John Nepomucene - Martyr
Beautifully preserved and framed in an intricately detailed silver filigree design.
The relic, a small piece of bone, is placed on top of a scarlet velvet episcopal fabric within a theca covered by a glass, which enhances the elegance of this devotional object. The delicate silver filigree surrounding the theca exemplifies the craftsmanship of Italian religious artisans of the 18th century.
The back of the reliquary features an intact Episcopal wax seal of a Bishop and its original threads that seals the relic inside and ensures its authenticity.
Saint John Nepomucene (c. 1345 – 20 March 1393)
Was a saint of Bohemia (Czech Republic) who was drowned in the Vltava river at the behest of King Wenceslaus IV of Bohemia. Later accounts state that he was the confessor of the queen of Bohemia and refused to divulge the secrets of the confessional. On the basis of this account, John of Nepomuk is considered the first martyr of the Seal of the Confessional, a patron against calumnies and, because of the manner of his death, a protector from floods and drowning.
