" Commode Galbee Decor Geometric Louis XIV Period"
Louis XI period chest of drawers with geometric decoration Slightly curved chest of drawers on the front opening with three long, superimposed drawers separated by an exposed crosspiece, the movement of which continues with the wide rounded front uprights. The sides are straight with a recess simulating the rear upright. The marquetry with purely geometric decoration highlighted by fillets and flowerbeds contrasts the alternating play of various species of native wood burl: ash, walnut, olive, maple and amaranth in shades of blond and brown. The geometric composition is adapted to the decoration of the top. The front of the drawers has a rigorous geometric marquetry. It is composed of light wood fillets drawing a triangle on either side of the movable handles. These triangles frame a hexagonal walnut cartouche standing out against elm wood. The beautiful quality bronzes – which are all original – enliven the rigor of this beautiful piece of furniture. A soft mask of Ceres with acanthus foliage adorns the apron. Very elegant drop drawer pull handles centered by the powerful grotesque mask of the keyholes. The deadbolt locks are original.
