Single-edged straight steel blade, shaped on the counter-edge, grooved, marked ‘A & J. SMITH ABERDEEN’.
Silver ferrule, monogrammed ‘A&JS’ and ‘ABD’ in two respective cartouches.
Blackened wood spindle carved in a grid pattern.
Silver cap pommel chased with geometric motifs, riveted button.
Wooden scabbard sheathed in black leather.
Silver cap and bolt engraved with geometric motifs and a bird feeding three chicks.
In Scottish Gaelic, the term ‘sgian dubh’ means ‘little knife’. It is one of the attributes of the officers of the Gordon Highlanders.
