André Sourigues (1924-2011) was a multi-talented artist from the Landes region. Alongside his career as a teacher, he distinguished himself as a painter, sculptor, musician, and composer, having been admitted to the SACEM (Science and Music Society) in 1955. In 1940, he created the first jazz orchestra in the Landes region, the “Sup-Jazz,” followed by other musical groups such as the “Fol” for the Fédération des Œuvres Laïques and, in 1970, a “Brazilian” group called “Los Cumbancheros.” In addition to his musical contributions, André Sourigues also published a novel entitled “La Roste en Chalosse” and a collection of poems. As a painter, André Sourigues captured landscapes of his native region. Here this painting is titled the Mazerolles pond. It is an oil on canvas representing a typical Landes scene.
