Working sundial and compass integrated with a retractable and adjustable bird gnomon, made by Chapotot in Paris. The latitude of major cities is engraved on the back of the dial.
Louis Chapotot was active between 1670 and 1700 at the Quai de l'Horloge du Palais à la Sphère, manufacturing sundials, microscopes, and surveying instruments.
In its original green cloth case. The box has been slightly worn and does not close completely.
