"17th Century Panel Depicting Christ By Correggio"
Oil on panel - Collector's stamp on the back. This panel was painted in the 17th century by a talented follower who reproduced the famous work of Correggio (1489, 1534) currently in the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Called the Veil of Veronica (or Head of Christ). The motif represented here is the result of the precise moment when, on the way to Calvary, a woman removed her veil to wipe the face of the Messiah. The image of the face of Jesus Christ was placed on the linen handkerchief, and it was miraculously preserved through the centuries, becoming an object of worship. This reproduction is of excellent quality that remains in the spirit of the original painting, being larger than the model painted by Correggio (23 cm x 28 cm). Dimensions: Without the frame: 37 x 32 cm. With the frame: 54 x 49 cm 19th century frame (re-gilded in perfect condition) Good condition of the work.
