"The Verona School Of Fine Arts Was Founded In 1764 (late 18th Century) By Giambettino Cignaroli"
The Verona School of Fine Arts was founded in 1764 (late 18th century) by Giambettino Cignaroli. Oil on panel - Collection stamp on the back. This panel was painted following the models of the work of Correggio (1489-1534) currently in the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Called the Veil of Veronica (or Head of Christ). The motif represented here is the result of the precise moment when, on the way to Calvary, a woman removed her veil to wipe the face of the Messiah. The image of the face of Jesus Christ was placed on the linen handkerchief, and it was miraculously preserved through the centuries, becoming an object of worship. This reproduction is of excellent quality that remains in the spirit of the original painting, being larger than the model painted by Correggio (23 cm x 28 cm).
