An antique cast iron arch, furnished with acanthus leaves and griffin heads, carries a brass tube and two lights with painted sheet metal shades.
Originally carrying oil lamps and later electrified.
The electrical system with bayonet sockets is perfectly functional.
This is not a copy, only the electrical assembly and the ceiling light are not from the period.

Originally a chain, joining the lamps, ran inside the tube equipped with a pulley on each side and was used to power, extinguish or light the oil lamps hung about fifty centimeters from the ends of the chain. By pulling one of them the other rose, the operation completed the lamps were balanced.
The low intensity of the lighting (candles, oil lamps and later kerosene lamps) put them very close to the table, the billiard table or the harpsichord.
