Object description :

"Renaissance Period Gilded Copper Wall Light : Allegory Of Faith"
Beautiful appliqué bust in embossed, chiseled and gilded copper, representing an allegory of Faith.

France or Flanders, late 16th century or very early 17th century.
Dimensions: 37 x 30.5 x 6.5 cm.

Marked by Mannerism, this bust of virtue was undoubtedly inspired by the engraving "Fides" by Jacques de Gheyn II, published around 1593.
Representations of the theological Virtues were very popular during the Renaissance, and became considerably rarer after the beginning of the 17th century.

Very good condition, some solder marks on the back and small lacks of gilding.
Very beautiful quality of chiseling, and beautiful shimmering gilding, treated matte and shiny.

Splendid applique, treated in high relief and presenting large dimensions.
Particularly decorative object, with great strength.
